Quadcade is a collaborative project between doctors, researchers, game designers, and patients exploring how play and new technologies can create better lives for the disabled and their community.
The project started as a collaboration between the MICA Game Lab, the Maryland Blended Reality Center and the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma. Our first project is a suite of VR games designed to help with rehabilitation from spinal cord injuries which won the Games for Change Best XR game in 2021.
Our current work is focused on three main areas:
- QuadLife – developing games, tools, and resources to explore how gaming technology can improve the lives of people with spinal cord injuries.
- Rehabilitative Play – we are exploring how games and play can be used in medical settings to promote healing, combat isolation and create community.
- Advocacy – we believe that play is essential to a healthy life and aim to provide resources, expertise, and research based upon our projects
